A Guide to Wedding Stationery

There are so many things to think about when planning and organising your wedding day and there is always the worry that something important will be forgotten or over looked. Take a few moments to look through our wedding stationery checklist to make sure you have all the important aspects covered.

Save the Date

Save the date cards are a great idea in this day and age as we all live such busy lives and make plans so far in advance. Save the date cards can be sent out well in advance of your wedding invitations to ensure that your guests save the date for your big day. Once you have finalised all the details of your wedding you can then send your wedding invitations out with all the necessary information (reply cards, gift list, maps, hotel details etc.)

Save the date cards are especially useful if your guests are traveling far and need to make travel and accommodation arrangements or if your weddings is planned for bank holiday weekend or festive periods where your guests are likely to make plans well in advance. To cut down on expense an email is also a great way of spreading the news of your wedding date before you send out your invitations and save the dates can be ordered just for those guests who don't use the internet regularly.

Our save the date cards are available in a range of colours to match our wedding stationery collections. They are also available with magnet attached to the back, great for popping on the front of the fridge!

Wedding Invitations

Day invitations are sent out to the guests you would like to invite to attend the whole event from the ceremony through to the wedding breakfast and evening reception. Never invite guests to just the wedding ceremony but not the reception - traditionally this was considered as a snub as it suggested these guests were not important enough to entertain!

Wedding invitations are usually worded from the host of the wedding, the host being whoever is picking up the bill. Traditionally this would be the bride's family and invitations would be worded very formally. Nowadays the burden of paying for the wedding has shifted away from the father-of-the-bride and invitations are often addressed from the bride and groom and take on a much more informal tone. When you order a sample invitation from us you will be sent out a wording examples sheet to give you some ideas of how you can word your wedding invitations.

Wedding invitations are usually sent out three months in advance of your wedding date. This allows your guests good time to make travel arrangements and book time off work and gives you plenty of time to receive your replies and plan the final details of your wedding day.

Evening Invitations

Following the wedding breakfast many couples chose extend the celebrations with an evening reception where they are able to invite more guests. Evening invitations are used to invite guests to the evening reception only. Some brides send their evening guests exactly the same invitation as the day guests with the only difference being the message printed on the front and inside, other brides opt for specially designed evening invitations which can often prove more cost effective. All of our wedding stationery ranges offer cost effective postcard style evening invitations.

Reply Cards

Receiving timely replies from your guests plays an essential part in planning your big day. When you request for your guests to respond by depends on how far in advance you need to let your caterers and venue know exact numbers by. Traditionally guest were expected to write a hand written note with their acceptance or apologies but nowadays brides often choose to include a pre-printed response card with the invitation.

Wedding Invitation Boutique offers a cost effective range of standard response cards and addressed envelopes. We also offer a premium range which are backed with pearlesent card to co-ordinate with your wedding invitations. All our wallet style invitations come with standard reply cards.

Reply cards can also be used to request information about your guests dietary preferences, such as vegetarians or allegies.

Order of Service/ Order of the Day

Order of Service cards are usually given to guests before the church service and include details of all aspects of the service including speeches, readings, music and hymns. Order of the Day cards are used for civil ceremonies and provide an itinerary of the day, you can also use one side of your insert as a menu saving the expense and time of producing separate menus.
